The BREDA Farmers Market is a weekly event for local vendors. Vendors sell food, beverages, art, plants, amongst other products. The FranU interns sampled salsa and, played nutrition games with the children. Additionally, during the event I prepared a fresh berry salad, participated in a cooking demonstration and, answered questions asked by community members. Three students including myself had the opportunity to host a cooking demonstration with a local entrepreneur chef. The ingredients and materials in the dish, were purchased and donated by vendors at the market. During the demonstration myself alongside my classmates and the chef, expressed our passion for dietetics, addressed nutritional-related questions and, presented the final dish for tasting samples. In the future, I will collaborate with community partners to promote healthy eating and, innovative cooking methods.

The FranU open house is an opportunity for future students to engage with current staff, student and faculty. As dietetic interns we understand the MSNS/DI program so, our directors require interns to manage the MSNS/DI information table. Unfortunately, in undergrad I did not visit the open house but, I encourage anyone interested in any of the FranU programs to attend.

Waitor hosted a grand opening event in downtown Lafayette, LA. At the event there were many local food, music and beverage vendors. Eat Fit Acadiana is part of the Ochsner health system, additionally, they partner with Healthy Acadiana. Healthy Acadiana hosted a table at the event. Local social workers, nutritionist and, chiropractors were at the table with EatFit Acadiana. During the event I educated community members about the mission and vision of EatFit. In the future, I will network with health professionals to advocate for health and wellness initiatives.

The purpose of this volunteer experience was to educate people in the community about resources within the area. These resources included breast screenings, nutrition education and other organizations that support overall wellness. Several students in my class volunteered for this event. We spoke to participants about making good choices at the grocery store, tips included shopping the perimeter of the grocery store, meal-prepping and, the importance of consuming fruits , veggies and whole grains. Personally, I had a valuable experience I was able to connect with the children at the event; we made learning fun! During the event they served delicious food though, next time I would like for us to help the church prepare a nutritious affordable meal.
