About
What Does a Hospice Volunteer Do?
The activities you will do as an Amedisys hospice volunteer may be many and varied. From reading at a patient's bedside and knitting lap blankets, to running errands, providing pet therapy or helping with administrative duties - there's a wide range of possibilities. Common volunteer activities often include:
Patient visits for socialization and companionship. Some patients are alone and love to have visitors. Others do have a support system but still enjoy visiting with volunteers.
Activities with patients, like reading, playing games, participating in pet therapy, scrapbooking or other crafts – and just plain companionship.
Helping with household activities like running errands, arranging flowers, walking pets or other tasks to help keep things running smoothly.
Provide support for the patient – and the family – such as providing breaks for family/caregivers, so that they may run errands, grocery shop or just get alone time. Making spiritual prayer calls, attending funerals and memorial services and offering companionship to loved ones.
Mission:
We honor those we serve with compassionate home health, hospice, and personal care services that apply the highest quality clinical practices toward allowing our patients to maintain a sense of independence, quality of life and dignity.
